Why would you possibly want to be free?

Interesting post by Jeeves on the worldismycountry blog.

Civil liberties is an awkward topic to criticise outright from within a western democracy with a tradition of liberalism. It looks bad enough taking a pop at liberty from within the confines of an elitist despotic state but in this country one must tread carefully or not at all.
All this has led the recent critics of the Civil Liberties movement to come up with a novel series of arguments to shield themselves from criticism.
All neatly taken apart, but argument #5 struck a particuar chord.
