Review of home education guidance in Scotland


The Scottish Home Education Forum has published its initial submission to the Scottish Government in advance of the planned consultation and review of the statutory home education guidance, which we had called for last year in order to bring it into line with the law following the 2016 named person Supreme Court judgment.

The government has confirmed it has no plans to change primary legislation. Even if it did, it would still have to comply with both ECHR and GDPR as Holyrood has no powers to amend overarching legislation.

Discussions around this are being held in our private forums and the Scottish Home Ed Forum is currently conducting a major piece of research on LA policies and HErs' experiences of them.
