Help. I think I've done it all wrong.

Today I have withdrawn my unhappy, lonely and depressed child from school sending a letter in to headmistress stating I want to home educate. I haven't heard back from school yet. My GP tells me he disagrees with home ed being best for child and that it is illegal not to send child to school. I sought advice from home ed advisory website which told me I can withdraw my child if I have good grounds. She is refusing to go to school and is desperately unhappy. I have already started educating her at home and she is much calmer. I thought this was good enough grounds but now I think I've done it all wrong. Any suggestions? I feel like a criminal now, expecting police or social services to knock on my door and take my child away from me. Any realistic advice as to what I can expect?
