Autistic man awarded £165,000 compensation by Cornwall Council after claims he received an 'inadequate education'

A 21-year-old has been awarded a £165,000 payout by Cornwall Council after claims of inadequate education, assault and unlawful exclusion.

Andrew Evans, who lives in Par, claimed that he was a victim of 'educational neglect' while attending Fowey Primary School, BBC Cornwall reports.

The man claimed that he received an inadequate education and mentioned both assault and unlawful exclusion.

According to the BBC, Mr Evans is on the autistic spectrum and was given a Special Educational Needs and Disability Statement. However, he said this was not acted upon between 2006 and 2007.

The claimant has now been awarded £165,000 in compensation in an out-of-court settlement, £100,000 of which is to cover court costs.
